Service Opportunities

"Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul,
with all your mind, and with all your strenght."
The second is this" "Love your neighbor as yourself."
There is no commandment greater than these."
- Mark 12:29-31

The events of 2020 have reinforced the need of people near and far to be embraced, encouraged, empowered by Jesus’ love. UCC Medfield is responding by seeing each person through God’s eyes and serving each person as Jesus’ hands. We are deepening our support to our local community and commitment to serve the most vulnerable throughout the world.  Here are some opportunities where you can be involved!

Cradles to Crayons

We are continuing our long standing partnership
with C2C by sorting bags of socks and underwear into packs of four (note this is a change from the previous number of three!).  Just contact Susan Holbrook to add your name to our email distribution list and you will be notified when take home bags are available for pickup.

New Life Furniture Bank of MA

Since April, New Life has continued to serve clients coming out of homelessness through a Virtual Furniture Bank process. As of November 1, the weekly number of appointments will increase from 9 to 12. With the use of a cell phone, clients can make selections from photos made available online, working with trained volunteers who are also operating remotely. If you are interested in joining other UCC Medfield volunteers, reach out to Carrie about working in a socially-distanced group of 10 or fewer on a shift dedicated to one task, such as painting, processing furniture, or sorting household goods. Masks required!

Knitting for Others (KFO)

The members of Knitting for Others ministry have been busy all throughout the pandemic knitting hats and scarves for the women at Woods Mullen Homeless Shelter in Boston and Snug as a Bug Sleep Sacks  for Cradles to Crayons. If you are interested in picking up yarn for a KFO project, reach out to Susan to set up a time to shop in our KFO warehouse.

Soup to Go

Throughout the pandemic, a group dedicated volunteers from UCC Medfield have delivered essential items to the women and staff at Wood's Mullen Shelter in Boston monthly. Donations of sweatshirts, underwear, reusable shopping bags, and handmade cards are always welcome. Please leave donations in the white covered plastic bin by Cathy’s mailbox. Contact Cathy Chung with questions.
