Our Mission
Mission
We take our call to share the love of God very seriously at UCC Medfield. We help people connect their passion to serve with local, national, and global organizations.
Discipleship
The United Church of Christ in Medfield, rooted in the Trinitarian-Congregational tradition, is a discipleship church of 450 members from a wide variety of church backgrounds based on the model set forth by Michael Foss at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville, MN. We believe that we are called to be disciples of Jesus Christ in the world; that each person in the congregation is called and gifted to do ministry, and the clergy equip and train the laity to be the ministers of the church in their everyday world. As a means of becoming disciples and growing in our faith we strive to practice the Six Marks of Discipleship: daily prayer, weekly worship, daily Bible reading, serving at and beyond The United Church of Christ in Medfield, relating with others to encourage spiritual growth, and giving generously. Through the practice of these spiritual disciplines we believe that God will form us into a faithful and fruitful people, and that God’s love will spread and transform the world.
Membership
Becoming a member of The United Church of Christ in Medfield is important for several reasons. First, it is a way of expressing the oneness that we share as followers of Jesus. Second, by committing ourselves to this local body of believers, we position ourselves for growing in faith and experiencing mutuality and accountability in our relationships with others. Third, membership gives persons visibility so that there is greater opportunity to connect with other persons and ministries. UCC Medfield works hard to help each individual find his or her gifts and to help each one “plug into” an appropriate ministry or small group. Fourth, membership gives each person a voice in the church government. The church government of UCC Medfield is the members of the congregation. The congregation as submitted to Jesus Christ our sole Head, makes major decisions concerning the overall direction of ministry, calling of the clergy, approving budgets, and electing church officers. Membership is a requirement for serving as deacons, administration and operations team members, and church officers.
A person who desires membership at the UCC in Medfield must:
1. Complete the two-session New Member class.
2. Make a Confession of Faith in Jesus Christ according to the UCC Book of Worship.
3. Be willing to build the Six Marks of Discipleship into your life and continue to grow in them.
4. Have been or be baptized.
Ultimately membership is not about having privileges; it is about loving, serving, and experiencing the communion that we have together in Christ Jesus.
Safe Church Policy
As a community of faith committed to Jesus Christ as Lord, we strive to extend a generous welcome to all who enter our doors and to treat them with the love and dignity that God bestows upon each and every one of us. We want our church to be a safe place for everyone.
Unfortunately, we cannot simply assume that our church is a safe place. We must take intentional and direct actions to ensure that it is so. The Safe Church Ministry Team wants people of all ages to be able to deepen their relationship with God and each other in a surrounding that is safe and secure. This includes creating an environment where the vulnerable are protected and opportunities for inappropriate behavior are eliminated.
