Prayer Shawl Ministry
![]() The United Church of Christ’s prayer shawl ministry is a group of needle workers that meet regularly to knit or crochet, pray and experience fellowship while working with our hands to express God’s love. Our group is a “spin off” from Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo’s Shawl Ministry which began 1997 (see www.shawlministry.com) Through our prayers, the needles transform simple yarns into mantles of care which give forth the comforting sense of the Lord’s love. Shawls are provided to those in need, as well as for special occasions. Those baptized at U.C.C. are given a shawl knitted by the ministry and blessed so that he or she will know that they will be wrapped in God’s love through their lives. Our meetings are casual, and begin with a prayer, asking God to be with us as we work. We use a simple beginner’s knit only pattern that can be modified for advanced knitters. Instruction is available for those wishing to learn to knit or crochet (the shawl is a great beginner project and many of us are still “beginners”!). The ministry has provided over 100 shawls since its inception in 2004, and the need for knitters continues to grow. If you would like to join us, or know of someone in need of a shawl please let us know. Meetings: (Parlor, 2nd floor above the front office) Daytime: 12:30 pm (bring your lunch!)
