Small Group Ministries

Over the last few years our church has been blessed to have several small group ministries. This has been an essential aspect of our moving from a membership model church to a discipleship model church. We currently have three Mom’s groups, plus the prayer shawl group. We also have the Shepherd’s Staff group and the” Soup to Go” coordinating team. All of these groups have drawn people closer to one another, to God and to a particular shared interest or ministry of service to others.

The question now becomes — what’s next? Well, we are hoping and praying to create a process in which people can connect to others through a small group. Why? Because although many already have found their “small group” not only in the groups listed above but also through Bible study and so on, many in our congregation are not connected to others beyond Sunday morning worship. We are convinced that when people come together for spiritual support and friendship, they are better connected to God and to the community of faith.

Moreover, we believe that God transforms hearts and lives in community. Hence, we want to build intentional small groups around shared interests where there is time for short biblical reflection and prayer. The idea is that as people spend time in small groups, people will grow in friendships and greater understanding of themselves and God.

The small groups will focus their purpose and time around a shared interest. Perhaps you would want to do more on-going service in the greater Boston area coupled with an opportunity to share in what you learned during those service times with others? That would be a small group! There might be those of you who want to talk and learn about financial planning from a faith perspective. Still others might want to explore how faith and work ethics are related. Maybe there are those of you who want to learn and support one another in raising your teenager. As you can see there is no limit to the topics of those “shared interests.” The commonality among all these small groups will be time spent for Biblical reflection and prayer. So if you have an idea for a small group please speak to Pastor Liz.

In addition, we are currently seeking more people who would like to lead a small group. They will receive training, equipping and support for this important role. If you are interested in leading a small group then please speak to Pastor Liz.
