Monday Morning
I awoke this morning after a pretty good nights sleep to pouring rain. After breakfast I led devotions at the conference room at the Colleen Hotel where I am staying in Mukoro—it was about a 40 minute presentation that I think went well. There were about 30 senior managers from around the country.
Then they brought me to a WVU office in Kamapala around 10:00 a.m. where I will be involved in a training for the group leaders at the headquarters from 2:00 - 4:00 .m. today. Then theywill take me back to Kumoro where I am spending the remainder of the week. Tomorrow the national conference involving those leading the Christian Commitment initiative throughout Uganda begins, and I will be involved in devotions and training. I am excited that I am meeting WVU staff from all over the country. I am slowly learning Ugandan geography and where various towns are located. Up until my last visit, I couldn't keep the names of towns straight, partly because many of them sounded alike to my untrained ear. But now I know that Mbale is in the eastern part of Uganda, Lira is in the north, Mbararo is in the southwest and Arura is in the northwest. Inflation is a real problem here. It is running at around 20%. The first time I came to Uganda in 2008 the exchange rate was about 1700 Ugandan Shillings to the dollar. When I exchanged dollars yesterday, the rate was 2805ugs to the dollar. That's a big difference. Peope are really struggling with inflation.
