Made it to Mokono
I arrived at Entebbe yesterday around 10:00 p.m. and stayed at a nearby hotel. I actually slept pretty well and headed for Kampala at 8:00 a.m. I went to church with Vincent Langiarti, a WVU staff person I met in March and who is responsible for the spiritual care of all of the WVU staff. We went to his church in downtown Kampala called Calvary Chapel. They have three two hour servies in a row: 8:00, 10:00, and noon. They had a good praise team and sang several songs that our praise team sings. Everyone was young (translation: under 35). I was the only old geezer in the room as far as I could tell (gray hair kind of stands out).
Afterwards, we went back to Vincent's apartment and had lunch with with him and his wife Beatrice who stayed home with their children. They have two of their own and three adopted--two of them were discarded by the roadside as babies and have some phyical and developmental issues but are both very sweet. Beatrice homeschools them. I have pictures of them that I will share with you when I return. By the way, both of them went to Gordon-Conwell and were there during the time that Karen and Nick attended. Beatrice received her degree in Counseling. I headed for Mokono around mid-afternoon and arrived at a hotel here where WVU is holding the week long conference for the staff being trained to lead the spiritual care in their respective locations. (If you look at the map of Uganda outside my church study door, you will see it about 15 miles east of Kampala. It is quite a big town with a large university in it. It is probably about a 40 minute drive east to Jinja from here where the head of the White Nile is located, and it is probably about a 2 1/2 hour drive east to the border with Kenya.) So tomorrow morning I give the message at devotions and head to Kampala mid-morning to do some teaching at WVU headquarters. I would appreciate your prayers for me as I prepare, speak, and teach.
