Heading Home

It’s about 5 p.m. here in Addis and I am killing time at the hotel until I get a ride around 8 p.m. for my 10:50 p.m. flight. I was able to do a little sightseeing in the city today and did a little shopping. Ethiopia definitely has a very distinctive culture.

One of the things that I need to mention is that coffee was discovered in the town of Kaffa in Ethiopia. And boy do they love coffee here. It is very strong and quite good (unlike some coffee in the US). I have seen coffee trees and watched the cook at the Quacha Birra ADP roast the coffee beans and then make coffee. So unlike Uganda and Kenya where the only coffee they have is instant, the coffee here is marvelous. Today we stopped at a coffee cafe that one an award in 2010 from the European Union. They have an expert in the little coffee cafe/shop who helped me choose a coffee type and told me a little about how it is processed. So I bought a few kilos and then we had some coffee to drink. We then drove through the market which is enormous, chaotic, congested, and full of life. I also went to the National Museum which is small but focuses on anthropology--the oldest human ancestor--Lucy--was discovered in Ethiopia and they have a good display on the prehuman/human fossils discovered in Ethiopia. I want to thank everyone once again for praying for my trip. It has been a blessing.
