Catching Up

I have a few minutes and an internet connection so I thought that I would try to catch up.  One of the most powerful experiences I had was visiting the IGA co-op in Bungatira subcouunty. This community of around 30 people have done an amazing job educating their children. With the income they make, they make sure that every child attends school. This is no minor feat since they have taken in many orphans and widows. There were many children there and all of them were attending school.

St. Thomas Moore School and More

On Friday I spent a great day at the St. Thomas Moore School. The women who are in adult education met us at the entryway to the school and sang and danced before us as we drove slowly behind. There the students and teachers were assembled outside underneath this enormous shade tree where we always meet and introductions were given.

Sponsored Children Visit

My trip to Gulu was uneventful yesterday except for the fact that we had no electricity when I arrived. There had been a big thunderstorm just before we arrived and i assume that was the problem.  In any case it was about 5:00 p.m. and light outside. I’m staying at Favor of God Guest house where I have stayed the last three times that I have been here. It is beginning to feel like home away from home. I was thinking as we made the four hour drive to Gulu how much more used to the culture I have become since my first visit in 2008. I also must say that there is such a difference in Gulu since that first visit: it is a bustling city compared to what it used to be. The streets are crowded with people who are buying and selling. It is very encouraging to me.
