Worship at UCC Medfield

During the months of September through June, UCC Medfield offers two worship services on Sundays. The 9:30 service held in the sanctuary is in the traditional style of worship with Sunday School for Pre-Kindergarten (ages 3 and 4) through 5th Grade held during the service. At 11:00 a.m. the service held in the upstairs Great Room is in a contemporary praise and worship format. Children are dismissed to a multi-age Sunday School class part way through the service. Nursery coverage is available for both services.

Discipleship

The United Church of Christ in Medfield, rooted in the Trinitarian-Congregational tradition, is a discipleship church of 450 members from a wide variety of church backgrounds based on the model set forth by Michael Foss at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville, MN.

A legitimate question that people sometimes ask is, “What does membership mean in a Discipleship Model church?” After all, since we are no longer a Membership Model church, why do we ask people to join our fellowship and become members? Isn’t that contradictory?

The Sacrament of Baptism

"A person is incorporated into the universal church, the body of Christ, through the sacrament of baptism. The water, words, and actions of the sacrament are visible signs that convey the Christian's burial and resurrection with Jesus Christ. The invocation of the Holy Spirit upon the water and upon the candidates for baptism is an affirmation that it is God who takes the initiative in the sacrament. Baptism is both God's gift and our human response to that gift. It is a sign and seal of our common discipleship. Through baptism, Christians are brought into union with Christ, with each other and with the church of every time and place.

The Sacrament of Communion

The United Church of Christ in Medfield celebrates the sacrament of communion during worship on the first Sunday of the month and on other special occasions like the late Christmas Eve service and the Maundy Thursday service.

Christian Marriage

Christian marriage is the covenanted commitment of a man and a woman to one another with the deliberate and diligent intention of living their life together in relationship to our God. The marriage ceremony, the wedding, is the joyful occasion when two people unite as husband and wife through the public exchange of covenant promises. As such, it is a worship service in which the couple offers themselves to one another and to God in the presence of witnesses, the Church.
