Special Services
Homecoming Sunday: On September 11, 2011, we will hold a combined service followed by a special fellowship time. On September 18th we return to our schedule of two services - the traditional worship service at 9:30 in the Sanctuary and the contemporary praise worship service at 11:00 in the Great Room. Sunday School for Pre-K (3 and 4 year olds) through fifth grade begins on Homecoming Sunday. Sunday School is offered at both services - traditional Sunday School at the 9:30 service and a multi-age class at the praise service. The nursery is staffed for both services.
Heifer Sunday: On October 30, 2011, our Fellowship Hall is transformed into a Living Gift Market in support of Heifer International (HI). Throughout the month of October the children will be learning about HI and how the organization transforms the lives of needy people around the world. Each class will study a specific animal and will make headdresses to wear at their tables that day. This is an important stewardship event for our children.
Medfield Interfaith Thanksgiving Service: will be held on Tuesday, November 22 at 7:00 PM (tentative), at one of the Medfield churches (TBA). Representatives from all the churches in Medfield, as well as Temple Beth David in Westwood, will take part in the service. We hope you'll take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to thank God in the context of the larger Medfield community.
Community Carol Sing: Our Sanctuary Choir leads the annual carol sing at our church on Friday, December 2 at 7:30 PM to complement the town tree lighting.
Advent Supper and Cookie Wrap: Sponsored by the UCC Women, we meet on December 6 to share a supper of soup and bread and then package homemade cookies for those who could use a little extra joy during the holiday season.
Christmas Pageant/Play: On December 11, our annual Sunday School Christmas play will be presented at both services. (Snow date: December 18)
Christmas Eve: On Saturday, December 24, 2011, candlelight worship services will be held at the following times - 5:30 PM service with Cherub, Training, and Treble Choirs; 7:30 PM service with Sanctuary Choir, Chapel Bell Ensemble and brass ensemble; 10:00 PM service with Communion.
Service of Lessons and Carols: We will hold this special service at 9:30 AM on SChristmas morning. There is no Sunday School that day. Children are invited to remain in the sanctuary with their parents. There is no 11:00 service that day.
UCC Medfield Service Day: Join us on January 28, 2012 as members of the congregation come together to serve the community. More details to come.
Ash Wednesday: on February 22, 2012, we will observe the beginning of Lent with a service at 7:30 PM.
Women's Lenten Breakfast: On March 31 at 9:00 the women of UCC Medfield as well as ones from area churches join together for a special breakfast and program to begin Holy Week.
Palm Sunday: On April 1, 2012, we will observe the beginning of Holy Week with our services at their regular times of 9:30 and 11:00.
Maundy Thursday: On Thursday, April 5 at 7:30 PM we will hold a Service of Tenebrae and will share Holy Communion in remembrance of the Last Supper.
Good Friday: Join us for our individual experiential worship activity, a "walk" through the events of Holy Week, on Friday and Saturday.
Easter: On the morning of Sunday, April 8, 2012, our family service will be held at 8:30 AM, our festival service at 9:30 and our praise service at 11:00. Special music and flowers mark this important celebration.
Service of Word and Song: On Thursday, April 26, at 6:30 p.m., the young people of our church lead the community in an evening prayer service, with readings from sacred Scripture and choral anthems learned throughout the year by our Training, and Treble Choirs.
Confirmation Sunday: On May 13, 2012, we celebrate our ninth grade confirmands' decision to reaffirm their baptism and join the church.
Graduation Sunday: On Sunday, June 3, 2012, we recognize our high school graduates with a special breakfast for them and their families before the 9:30 worship service.
