Help Us Assemble Welcome Backpacks - This Sunday, September 24
Our Soup to Go ministry has been supporting the Woods Mullen Shelter for many years by preparing and serving hearty meals, donating magazines, books, clothing, and toiletries and making encouraging cards. We are expanding this ministry by providing Woods Mullen and the nearby men’s shelter (Southampton Street Shelter) with Welcome Backpacks that will be given to anyone new to the shelters. The backpacks will include toiletries, socks, flip-flops, underwear, leggings, wash cloths, shaving kits, and a handmade welcome card. This Sunday, join us after the 9:30 service and before the 11:00 service in Fellowship Hall to help us sort the items, make welcome cards and fill the backpacks. Contact Liz Lisciandra with questions.

RightNow Media, An Online Christian Media Resource Library
Resources for you! Helping you grow in your love of God is a major priority here at UCC Medfield. We now have a media resource that can help you grow in your faith and in many other areas of your life (work, leadership, parenting, singleness, knowledge of the Bible, etc.) If you are interested in having direct access to the RightNow Media online Christian media resource, email Pastor Karen and an invitation will be sent to you in your email. We look forward to hearing how you are using this new resource! A quick disclaimer: As is the case with other resources that we use that we do not create ourselves, not all of the values in these videos reflect the values of our own congregation. Watch an introductory video about this exciting new program.

An Update On Growing Young
Churches are losing both members and vitality as increasing numbers of young people disengage and drop out of church. The Fuller Youth Institute (FYI) in Pasadena, CA has done ground breaking research with over 250 vital churches in the US and developed strategies to keep teenagers and young adults engaged and active in church in their book Growing Young. UCC Medfield has embraced this initiative and has accepted an invitation to participate in a “Growing Young Cohort,” – a group of churches who will attend two conferences at FYI during the year, engage in webinars, and develop a strategy for our church given our particular context. UCC Medfield will send eight people to the training: Wendy Ludwig and Pastor Phil (co-chairs), Pastor Karen, Jen Carlson, Liz Lisciandra, Tim O’Loughlin, Emily Ott, and Arturo Rodriguez. We will share what we learn with both the leadership and the congregation and are excited to see how God will work! As the FYI authors wrote in Growing Young, “The good news is that when we bridge generation gaps, everyone grows young. Cross-generational discipleship is beneficial not only for young people but also for older generations who need the vitality of the young to inspire their faith just as much as the young need wise elders to ground theirs. Faith, after all, is not just passed down. It’s passed around.” Please join us in reading this exciting book by Kara Powell, Jake Mulder and Brad Griffin.Copies are available in the office.
Our 2017-2018 Music Season is underway and there are opportunities for all to participate. For information regarding the ensembles as well as rehearsal and performance schedules for the year please follow the links below or contact Christine Hogan.
